Someone approached me the other day for help. There was a vanishing point in her field of vision. I told her not to worry. I set to work. In less than 3 hours, I was able to tell her -' Your vanishing point is gone'. She was relieved. Not two hours later she came back saying her vanishing point had returned with a vengeance, and that not only that, as she walked towards the point, it remained exactly in the center of her vision. I then revealed to her that in fact a vanishing point is simply an intellectual ABSTRACTION, and that there is no such thing in fact. It's just useful to suppose such a thing. 'Why is it useful?', she asked.' Correct', I said. 'You are a genius' she declaimed. 'How do you do it?' I demurred modestly - 'First I gave up trying to make sense of everything, then I gave up things themselves, until there was no thing in my thoughts and my thoughts were in no thing.'
