The Mirror Self is a perfectly camouflaged false symbiot. It looks like us, speaks like us, thinks like us. We have even given it a user-friendly name - the ego. Yet it is our soul's saboteur. Once named, it loses it's fearful countenance. We not only tolerate it, we fall in love with it ....but it is a doppelganger - the unreal virtual mirror image of our true Self, tricked out in toxic versions of our own highest thoughts and aspirations. Our true selves take a backseat , watching helplessly whilst we writhe in a prison of space/time, hypnotized by its baubles, in much the same way toxoplasmosis affected mice give themselves up freely to predatory cats. Thus the doppelganger contrives, over aeons, to keep its counterpart in the sublunar ‘underworld’ via corruption of purpose. This dynamic is reflected time and again throughout mythology, history, literature and film as the tension between Self and Mirror Self –Cain/Abel, Castor/Pollux, Odette/Odile, Osiris/Set, Romulus/Remus, Gilgamesh/Enkidu, White Swan/Black Swan, Demeter/Persephone,Wicked Queen/Magic Mirror, Othello/Iago, Macbeth/Lady Macbeth, Eve/snake, Athens/Sparta, Rome/Carthage, Jekyll/Hyde,Narcissus. Orpheus. Tammuz. Dianne Selwyn. Tyler Dunder. , God-Mind/Beast-Mind.
The Self/Mirror -Self dichotomy poses as a natural polarity to escape critique and detection.
The doppelganger is not a natural part of the human psyche.
It is a foreign installation. It is a genetically engineered artifact.
It is the fox in the chicken coop, it is the undetectable, 24/7 surveillance tool of our masters,.... it is this shadow that rules us because it has offered us its mind- world , we have accepted it and life now seems , literally, unthinkable without it.
